Gospel River

Created in the course of the year 2003, Gospel River is a cosmopolitan choir (Africa, the Caribbean, France, the United States...) that naturally demonstrates that Negro spirituals and gospel are not artistic expressions confined solely to North American soil.

Negro spiritual music has its roots in the history of the deportation and slavery of tens of thousands of Africans to the old continent. It was first the prohibition on speaking that led enslaved Black people to show solidarity through Work Songs, raw chants composed of short and stinging phrases, without accompaniment. The "shouts" thus used nourished their Faith and their dialogue with spiritual forces, whatever their original beliefs.
