The famous Stabat Mater, which Pergolesi completed just before his death, achieved nearly universal renown by the middle of the eighteenth century. Through its beauty alone, the opening duet could have ensured the immortality of its composer. In contrast, Vivaldi's motet In furore iustissimae irae expresses divine wrath with breathless virtuosity. As for the Nisi Dominus, it is a masterpiece of chiaroscuro, offering a moment of ethereal suspension with the Cum dederit. Incomparable in this repertoire, Julia Lezhneva joins her voice with that of Maarten Engeltjes for the Stabat Mater, accompanied by the ensemble PRJCT Amsterdam.
