La Grande Ourse

A creature half woman, half bear sows terror in the villages. She is suspected of coldly murdering anyone who refuses to pay her. La Grande Ourse inspires terror, and when she knocks on the door of M. de Vendomois and his maid Célestine, a chill runs down the latter's spine.

Plunged in grief over the death of 'his old woman', Monsieur de Vendomois seems to have lost all awareness of the imminent danger lurking over him.
