⁉️ Mais c’est quoi ce langage (inclusif) ?
A series of 4 workshops to understand what inclusive language really is, take action, and debate without tearing each other apart.
"Inclusive writing" stirs debate: many people talk about it, but opinions are often based on preconceived notions rather than scientific, linguistic, and historical foundations.
This series of 4 workshops offers time for reflection to understand what inclusive language truly is and the diversity of its forms (beyond the controversial middle dot);
become aware that it is a tool each and every one of us can use daily, at work or at home, and learn how; deconstruct opposing arguments and learn how to respond, fostering a constructive and inclusive civic debate.

On the agenda
Workshops 1 and 2: Introduction to inclusive language
What is the difference between inclusive language and inclusive writing? What is it used for? How do we use it? What are the various techniques? How to avoid backlash? Why do so many companies use it?
The introductory workshop lays the foundations of the debate and explains the main conventions of inclusive language using concrete everyday examples (advertising, job offers, series…).
Workshop 3: Inclusive language, adults’ superpower against gender stereotypes in children
When raising or working with children, many questions arise about how to avoid transmitting stereotypes: which game to play? which book to read? But there is a superpower we already possess and tend to underestimate: our choice of words and using language where “the masculine does not take precedence”. Because it conditions children’s views on professions and people’s roles in society from an early age, choosing fair, precise, and inclusive words is crucial.
This workshop explores the scientific mechanisms behind the impact of words on gender stereotypes, offers a guilt-free approach to teaching French to children, and suggests effective inclusive language practices with children.
Workshop 4: “Inclusive writing”: the argument bingo, or how to sharpen your comeback skills to defend inclusive language
It’s useless! It’s a false fight! It’s unreadable for dyslexics! French is complicated enough already! The language isn’t sexist! It’s pointless woke feminist nonsense! Don’t you have anything better to do?
It’s not always easy to answer while keeping calm. So let’s play argument bingo to practice!
In this workshop, following a quick introduction to the concept of inclusive language, we will review the main arguments of naysayers and practice responding using scientific, historical, and linguistic arguments, with concrete illustrations to persuade and debate without fighting.
⚠️ Notes:
– It is not necessary to have attended an introductory workshop to join the subsequent workshops
– Workshops are open to everyone, whether French is your native language or not, but good spoken proficiency is required to follow and take part. This is not a French lesson; your grammar or spelling "level" matters little!
