Holiday dishes: the drawn portion

Exhibition by Ursula Schmidt as part of the Here and elsewhere: Kitchen stories event, in libraries across the 18th arrondissement.

The exhibition displays a selection of drawings from an ensemble of artist sketchbooks: « Carnets de la Goutte d’or - Château rouge » produced in situ live throughout explorations in the neighborhood and shared meals in the area, among them "Les repas de fête", an event initiated by 4C, FGO-Barbara, and Les Ethnographes, kitchen and solidarity third-place, banquets, and kitchens of the district.

These drawings immerse us in the behind-the-scenes preparations, when everyone brings something, a recipe, ingredients to discover, a gesture, a story, when the venue becomes a place for gathering, sharing, and solidarity. The swift stroke of action sketches sits alongside the slower gesture of other naturalistic drawings of ingredients and edible plants specific to the cuisine of the neighborhood's residents and local shops.
