« Minor Slip » marks the Felte debut of Shaki Tavi, the flagship project of Leon Manson – originally from Oklahoma and based in Los Angeles, an ardent DIY devotee – surrounded by a group of friends and fellow travelers. Across layered bursts of fuzz-drenched guitars and overdrive drumming, deceptively beautiful pop choruses emerge, highlighted by Manson's weathered, harmonized baritone vocals and his gift for inventive structures. Looking back at the origins of the album, which he traces to a period of exhaustion and disillusionment, he recalls: “I started by sitting down with a few effects and minimal gear, playing riffs, wondering: ‘What if this could be fun?

What if this could be for me?’ ” The result is powerful, vulnerable, catchy, and exceptionally authentic: an eruption of creative force from this child of rock musicians, whose passion and determination were revealed while an outsider in a small town, then strengthened amidst the artifices and unforgiving reality of Los Angeles, where everyone must fend for themselves.
