"What if the plaster Marianne symbolizing the Republic suddenly started talking, right here and now? In Tentative(S) de Résistance(S), five characters follow one another: a cow, an old lady, a female incarnation of General de Gaulle, a cabaret Marianne, and a creature inspired by the most turbulent years of visual artist Niki de Saint-Phalle. Marie-Do Fréval created these five characters from festival to festival and presents them all together for the first time at the Rencontres d'Ici et d'Ailleurs. She does not hide that this show is also a civic project: staying alive through art and, using a visceral language, casting an eye on the world, current affairs, and freedom of expression."
